Becketwell, Derby
St James Securities are working with Derby City Council bringing forward a comprehensive development for the regeneration of Becketwell. The development of this long neglected and derelict 6 acre site, which makes up 5% of the city centre, is envisioned to create a mixed use scheme and significant place-making initiative. The idea is to assist in repopulating the city centre with people throughout the daytime and nigh time being a place to “Live, Work and Play” The centrepiece of the development is Springwell Square a new public space which becomes the focal point which all major phases are accessed from. Phase I is “The Condor” Grainger plc’s first Built to Rent scheme in Derby which will deliver 259 new homes, amenity space, roof garden and co-working space/residents lounge together with 2 ground floor commercial units. Practical completion will take place in May 2023. Phase II is a 3,500 capacity multi-purpose performance venue which will be owned by Derby City Council and leased to and operated by the world’s leading arena operator ASM Global. As well as hosting rock and pop bands, musical theatre and comedy the space is entirely flexible and can be configured for conferencing, exhibitions and banqueting. Construction begins in Spring 2023 with practical completion at the end of 2024.
